Raise a glass


Outside the still night is once again shattered
A broken bottle, a drunken yell
The streetlights illuminate the stage
of another failed life.
Enter, stage left a Tramp and his wife

She swayed and cursed under her breath
He grabbed her roughly by the arm
"Come on you bitch, I won't tell you again"
"Get off me you useless prick!" she spat
They made their way oblivously past my flat

I could smell their desperation from my room
I imagined how they saw themselves
full of bravado, immune to the night
In reality they were a pitiful sight

Her once youthful gait
was now a shuffle
A swollen face that make up couldn't mend
His swollen Belly and urine flecked shoes
Were a testament to nights on the Booze

This City has its victims
every city has
Men with huge roughned hands
Like their Grandfathers from working the land
but theses hands grew from fights and pounding the ground
Punching and whailing against the huge invisible walls
that imprison us all...
