  • just like me
    he's a gadget's man.
    he'd fiddle with the video
    every weekend,
    flicking through the channels
    while flicking ash
    into his beer can,
    he'd curse at it
    lyrically,
    like a song.

    'you feckin' heap of crap!'
    he'd say.
    'do you see this son?
    never buy a gadget
    without its
    brand name on!'

he'd decide to take it apart.

he'd start with the outer casing,
    side panels,
    then the circuits,
    wires and diodes
which he'd lay out on the floor.

    he never used a screwdriver.
    he swore by the butterknife.
    just one memory
    of my dad back then.
    the gadget's man
    who gave me life...

    ________________
The Gadget's Man is an old performance poetry piece of mine that I've decided to dust down and present on here. Diarmuid, Sean Óg and myself have been messing around with images for it and will be working on the audio performance some time soon. The Gadget's Man was displayed on the former MSN Sensitize up until 2004 when the community was closed.

Delph, if you think it needs layout or punctuation corrections, I would really appreciate your help mate, thanks :) ...

Super piece, Lugh. This is the first time I've seen it. Two points occur to me: one - you don't use any capitals in the text, so I wouldn't use them in the title. Two - gadgets is a simply plural, so ditch the apostrophe on every occasion, both within the text and the title. Apart from that, I'd consider a full stop rather than a comma after 'beer can' and add a comma after 'diodes'.

Cheers Delph :)

I will leave the original one above to show as a 'work-in-progress' between us should any funders ever find us and add the edited version below (next post), and also add it to my Collected Works folder.

Nice one :D

hehehe..., this 'gadget man' reminds me of one gadget vendor  that we met at an electropub managed by a dirty-minded Irishman some time ago  . He's off business now... the vendor, not the Irishman.

Keep the good work, said Aunt Sensie.
