The no-soul people

There are people with no souls.
When they were born
God couldn't find one available
and they came to this world
to cannibalise others'.
Even then they cannot have one of their own.

Have you ever met one of these specimens?
I did. There's one not far from where we meet
although at times she may stay in bed
to regain health for her next attack.
This will not last for ever.
One day she wont be able to come back!

We'd never have guessed.

Harsh writing; cruel even -- but there are those whose actions truly make them appear soulless, and if they read how they appear to others through a poem such as this, maybe they will look into themselves and start to question how they are living their lives, and whether perhaps they should find a better way, as the clock ticks down.

One can but hope they will.

As a poem, it is not particularly 'poetic', but you've succeeded in the difficult task of writing about the soul without resorting to clichés. This poem was written for a particular time and place, and as such, it worked brilliantly.

I throw this in front of you all as a challenge. Write something about a soul without being cliched.

Even better. Let's think up new soul cliches for the 21st century.

Hmmmmm. "New Soul Cliches for the Modern Man" sounds like the next album released by my fictional/mythical California Hippy character "Ogden Kapov and the Fathers of Adversity". Hmmmm. I'll need some songtitles and lyrics for it.
