I'm taking this opportunity to wish Poet Laureate and Derry man Seamus Heaney a (belated but) very Happy Birthday. I'm sure all on Sensitize © wish him the same. Seamus Heaney celebrated his 70th birthday recently with the release of a 15 CD compendium of his works recorded over a 3 month period. Some of his new work was performed by RTE's Vanbrugh String Quartet.
Seamus Heaney wrote: If you think a poem is finished when you write it and you say 'yes' to it, it is finished and it's over
Like so many here in Northern Ireland, I grew up on a loose diet of Seamus Heaney's poetry. One of my favourite poems (performed by himself) is The Road To Derry which address his emotions as he drove home to Derry to attend the funerals of 13 Derry civilians murdered by the British army in January 1972 on Bloody Sunday.
