The Power Of The Written Word...

Post by Louis P. Burns aka Lugh »

Yesterday a writer pal of mine called round and said I should check out the Get Writing - BBC N.I. Learning site and watch Bernard MacLaverty reading from his most recent work.

I think you guys should watch him reading in the four video streams that become available on that last hyperlink above. In particular; When A Bomb Goes Off, Everything Becomes Shrapnel. Powerful work that does not shy away from the horrific, ugly nature of war. I would consider this a perfect demonstration in, the power of the written word...

Bernard MacLaverty ( read more about him here ) is a Northern Irish, novelist and short story writer of longstanding. Many of his works have been adapted to television plays. In his writing he has consistently addressed the pathetic conflict here and how pointless it has all been. In a broader context and in line with what is currently happening in the Middle East, hopefully his words will enlighten a few of the fanatics living out there and deter them from continuing...
