Some photographs make you think, "Wow! that person really knows their way round Photoshop!" Others make you think, "Yes! Someone who really sees!" This photograph, thankfully, belongs to the latter category. The photographer here has seen something of beauty, and has captured it, simply and effectively. There is no cloning out a twig that got in the way; no extra saturation of the vegetation to make an intense green to turn the stomach; no deep inky water to reflect an unlikely sky. This is real. This is what the place looks like. This makes me want to go there.

The photograph is subtle. Lovely browny greens in the foreground. Hills that fade into blue, with the merest hint of lilac. Clear water reflecting a clear sky. Perfect composition - thirds, used with care, so not too obvious. The eyes led, zig-zagging across the water and then far into the distance through the classic U-shaped valley.

This is how to take photographs.

I totally agree Delph. I have it as my desktop image (I asked Pól first) and have found myself staring at it frequently all week. A delightful photograph.

This picture is part of a batch of shots Pól took for us around the loughs (lochs) in Co. Donegal for a short story I wrote called Release, about a ficticious political ex-prisoner; Michael Patterson. Diarmuid (Diesel Engine) has been grafting away all week, animating it and several other images that Pól caught roughly 2 weeks ago. I will upload the stills later this afternoon to this section. Wait til ya see them. They're stunning. I honestly believe writers like your good self and Mike will find them deeply inspirational.
