The US goverment is keeping tight lipped after it was revealed that a large part of the US militarys reserve internet had been lost. This internet which was to be used in times of national emergency dissappeared on Mon the 22nd of May It was being housed along with the US Gold reserves in Fort Knox.
An Army spokesman said that the loss of so much Internet was demoralising for his troops as the use it to view pornography and keep in contact with loved ones via Web cams.

I find it hard to believe that trigger-happy, uniformed, psychopaths could use a webcam to contact loved ones, or for that matter, hold the capacity in their minds to read or view pornography.

I just got a mental image of some spotty-faced young American soldier, jacking off to porn while blowing a kiss through a webcam to his grandmother... Why is anyone putting guns in the hands of something so obviously out-of-control..?

This is a load of nonsence. the internet is not a physical thing that can be lost or stolen, maybe a huge amount of the Armys servers have been stolen or lost but the internet can't be lost. I should know I invented it, and i keep it under my bed.

Every now and then I print out the internet and leave it near the toilet so I have something to read.

Anyways.... this will teach the Americans to back things up. Surely they must have had a box of blank disks somewhere.

Feckin' Norah..!

Can people sue for loss of data if they can prove that data was important or work related?

Mega Breach of copyright for several folks here I think...

Can't prove it if you can't recover it.

I do suspect that an admin somewhere, along with the management drone that gave the orders to put a test server into a production environment will have recieved their p45's over it.

I'll also bet Sun Microsystems, who sold them this piece of kit weren't best pleased either - it looks bad for them when this sort of gradeschool cockup happens...

Problem solved.... I found the floppy that I backed up the internet on. I just kept zipping up the whole thing and then rarred it, then turned it into an .arc file, then I zipped it again and it fitted on a 3.5 inch disc. The internet has now been restored.

Bollox Dave :P ... If the internet has been fully restored, then I challenge you to explain the contents of the hyperlink in the next message. G'wan, ye will, ye will, ye will, ye will :P ...

Alan, if you're reading this message as well mate. Can you copy the hyperlink in the message below and notify all the Press and internet media representatives on your list please? Thanks man

One interesting footnote to all of this. Most of the people who would be worried about the contents of the link in the message below, should also have heart attacks when they see the number that message is on our General Messages section. I hope to feck they've watched The Omen :P ..!

Luckily, I don't believe in such ridiculous mumbo-jumbo. It's the building bricks of stupidity, but I will giggle my head off if I hear anyone keels over and dies from shock  ...

There's still a virtual blackened hole in the interweb from when Slightly's Amiga did the meltdown thing. He found parts of it etched into Michael Gills trouser seat by the explosion and is retyping it even now.

<blink>

All of my media contacts (bar you) are in tech...

But assuming I had some into other things, I couldn't show them that on it's own, hell I have to be honest, I'd be hesitant about showing it to them at all, you come off sounding like a ranting zealot in that message...

Dunno, it could just be me, but I honestly think you need to sit down and work on a better delivery patter, tone it down, keep it simple, stick to the facts. Claiming things left and right (even if you have the evidence to back it up) won't get you anywhere, leave that to the journalists to put in.

I mean it's your call ultimately, but as it stands, I don't honestly think I could do much with the above on it's own.
